I am an Oakland native, living by Lake Merritt with two cats and one wonderful partner.
For undergrad, I went to school down the peninsula at Stanford University, majoring in Psychology. A few years later I journeyed briefly into the freezing-cold winters of the midwest for my Master's in Social Work, studying at the University of Chicago.
Counseling has been my life-long passion, and I've spent 11 years now as a counselor, therapist, and crisis responder. But in recent years my field has narrowed itself down to three main areas of interest for me:
Helping my clients strengthen their relationships with the people who matter the most to them
Creating an atmosphere of emotional safety where my clients feel fully seen and understood
Integrating psychology research and evidence-based practice into my naturally relational and conversational style
I'm trained as a family systems and a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) therapist, meaning that I work with you to understand the whole picture of your life rather than focusing only on your present symptoms. Together we can work toward the goals of insight, acceptance, and change by looking at the patterns that developed in your childhood and adolescence and their continued role in your life today.
As a therapist who treats clients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, and other conditions that are heavily researched and whose treatment recommendations change year by year, I make sure to attend continuing education classes and brush up on the latest findings from lead psychologists in the field.
